Heritage Equipment Company welcomes Park District’s Day Camp kids

A group of seven- to ten-year-old Day Camp attendees and their leaders visited
Heritage Equipment Company on June 24 to learn a little about farming equipment.
“Do tractor cabs have TVs like my car?” and other questions were answered by Heritage Equipment Company Sales Manager Shawn Hendel when 15 kids participating in the Macomb Park District’s Day Camp came to visit on June 22 and 24.
“The camp’s theme for the week was Earth, Water, and Fire,” said Day Camp Coordinator Sally Adams. “Heritage fit the ‘earth’ aspect perfectly.”
Adams went on to say none of the kids participating in the Macomb Park District’s Day Camp live on farms. “Farming is a big part of our community. A visit to Heritage was a great way to introduce them to farming, and particularly farm equipment.”
Two groups of kids spent about an hour exploring tractors, combines, and lawn mowers on the Heritage grounds. “One of the kids in the younger group asked about TV monitors in the tractor cabs,” said Hendel. “They do have monitors—but I explained that farmers don’t get to watch cartoons. They use them to keep an eye on their planting or combining.”
The older group of kids also got a tour of Heritage’s shop and parts department and learned some farming history. “They were curious about the costs of the large equipment such as tractors,” added Adams.
“We were really happy to host the kids last week,” said Hendel. “It was a fun time, and a good way to get them a little bit of information about the important role farming plays in the town where they live.”
Heritage Equipment Company is a Gold Star certified John Deere dealer located on East Jackson Street in Macomb. The dealership sells and services agricultural, commercial, and lawn and garden equipment for customers in West-Central Illinois.
