MACOMB, IL - Heritage Equipment Company in Macomb helped over 85 area farmers prepare for the fall harvest with a combine clinic on August 26. It is the largest turnout the John Deere dealership has had for this maintenance and technology refresher course in the six years Service Manager Denny Wallin has been coordinating the event.
“It’s going to be a late harvest, and that means a tougher harvest,” said Wallin. “Our customers want to do everything they can to be prepared.”
Being prepared means performing regular maintenance. “The biggest maintenance tip we stress is lubrication of the wear points,” said Wallin.
Another reason producers are more motivated to attend clinics in recent years is the addition of technology to new combines. “New John Deere models have command centers that display the operating settings of the combine and also have diagnostic capabilities,” said Wallin.
At the clinic, six Heritage technicians and a corporate John Deere representative also reminded groups of customers of safety practices. They encouraged the farmers to occasionally get out of the combine cab and to guard against excessive fatigue.
“We want our producers to remember safety comes first,” said Wallin.
Heritage is available to its customers seven days a week during harvest season, and technicians are on call after hours for maintenance needs.
